Peter emphasises the importance of involving the whole practice team all of the time.

Ask them what they think the practice stands for and what they see and hear is the clients’ perception of it.

Have a planning session deciding what you do not want to do and try to align the practice structure and activities with to make full use of each individual team member’s strengths and abilities. Put systems in place that motivate people too.

Peter warns of the necessity to heed Pareto’s 80:20 Rule and to set up a clear fee structure in order to prevent confusion or undercharging.

He also advocates a series of ratios that can be used as “quick checks” on business performance.
